ADM Londis is named Best in Class – Fresh Logistics/Supply Chain Operation

Success of Centralised Chilled Distribution facility recognised at Checkout “Best in Fresh” awards 2013

Little over one year since the launch of its Centralised Chill facility, ADM Londis, the Irish grocery retail group, has been named “Best in Class – Fresh Logistics/Supply Chain Operation” at the Checkout “Best in Fresh” 2013 awards. The success of the grocery group’s Centralised Chilled Distribution facility was recognised at the annual awards gala in the Four Seasons Hotel, Dublin on 16th July.

The “Best in Class – Fresh Logistics/Supply Chain Operation” award acknowledges innovation and efficiency along a retailer’s supply chain, particularly in fresh produce, and honours a retailer that has excelled in delivering a fully-optimised logistics solution.

Londis’ game-changing Centralised Chilled Distribution facility, launched in June 2012, marked a major step in how Londis and its retailers operate. For the first time, retailers could place their chilled orders directly with ADM Londis through the Group’s ISIS (intelligent ordering portal) web platform and receive these products in a timely and efficient single delivery.

Four years in the planning, the Centralised Chilled Distribution facility was part of a five year €20m investment in partnership with warehousing and logistic experts Norbert Dentressangle. It now incorporates over 1,500 product lines, 55 suppliers and over 200 retailers within the supermarket, convenience and forecourt categories.

The Centralised Chill supply chain has generated significant benefits for Londis retailers. By replacing over 50 different supplier deliveries with one consolidated delivery, retailers can better manage on-shelf availability, minimize wastage, improve their margins, offer increased customer facing promotions and vastly enhance in store efficiencies, resulting in significant operational savings. On average, savings of 6% have been passed back to retailers since its launch.
Commenting on the award, Stephen O’Riordan, CEO, ADM Londis said, “We are delighted to be recognised by the industry in this way, little over one year since we launched our Centralised Chill facility. The Centralised Chilled Distribution facility was a major investment in the future for the Group and our retailers, and represented a real sea change in how we operate. Drawing on cutting edge technologies, the chilled facility has streamlined our operations and generated efficiencies and savings both for retailers, and in turn for their customers. There has been overwhelmingly positive feedback from our retailers and we look forward to working closely with them to optimise this investment even further.”
