Londis retailers raise €38,000 for Muscular Dystrophy Ireland

Jul 31, 2009

July 2009 – ADM Londis plc, with the support of Londis retailers nationwide, has raised €38,000 for Muscular Dystrophy Ireland (MDI).

Fundraising took place on MDI National Awareness day earlier this year.  Funds were raised through the sale of Lily O’Brien chocolates, available exclusively in over 300 Londis stores nationwide, with all money raised going towards funding much needed support services for Muscular Dystrophy, including respite care, family support, transport and youth services.

Joe T Mooney, Chief Executive Officer, Muscular Dystrophy Ireland stated, "We are delighted with the tremendous support received from Londis and the substantial amount collected will go towards funding the crucial respite support services provided to 520 members nationwide and will also fund medical research into the condition".

Speaking about the campaign, Sue O’Grady, Trade Marketing Manager said, “We were delighted to join forces with MDI to help raise money for the superb services that the charity provides to people suffering from Muscular Dystrophy. Through their national awareness day and the support of Londis retailers, we were able to reach as many people as was possible in order to raise money and awareness.  We would like to thank all Londis retailers who supported this campaign in-store and, of course, our customers who purchased the chocolates.  With their support, we are now in the position of being able to present a cheque for a phenomenal €38,000 to this worthy charity”.

Mooney added that, "Respite support is short term care that allows a family and the individual with MD to take a break from the normal routine and stress of life. We aim to provide short term respite for members with MD and their families in order that they maintain physical and emotional well being."
