Londis, Station Road, Adare Wins Overall Store of the Year Award at The 2014 Londis Retailing Excellence Awards!
“Local insight, local service and local community engagement are key ingredients to running a successful local retailing business and persuading customers that shopping locally really is best,” according to Stephen O’Riordan, Chief Executive of ADM Londis, speaking at the Group’s 60th Anniversary Banquet and Retailing Excellence Awards. Over 200 store owners from all over Ireland gathered, on Friday October 3rd in the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel, for the awards, which celebrated the very best of local community retailing.
Londis, Station Road, Adare was honoured with the Overall Store of the Year Award and also, the Foodmarket Store of the Year Award at the Group’s Annual Retailing Excellence Awards ceremony. Meanwhile, O’Connor’s Londis Newcastlewest was presented with a Silver Award. A range of criteria was taken into account during the judging process including the emphasis placed on customer care, the quality of their fresh food offering, the depth and breadth of product range, and the store’s commitment to supporting local causes in the area in which they operate.
Accepting the award, David Curtin of Londis, Station Road said; “We are thrilled and honoured to have achieved the Overall Store of the Year Award at the Londis Retailing Excellence Awards. It recognises the hard working staff and the dedication they have to the store. We provide excellent customer service with a smile and we focus on every customer receiving a great shopping experience. I would like to thank all staff members and customers for their constant support”.
Presenting the awards, Stephen O’Riordan, Chief Executive ADM Londis, congratulated both stores; “2014 is a very special year for the Group as it marks our 60th year trading in Ireland. Over the last six decades we as a group have thrived because of the strength of our offering and through the hard work, resourcefulness and professionalism of our retailers. We know that by offering customers an excellent range of products and excellent prices, along with a top class service we can count on their continued local support. These awards are a testament not just to these retailers but also to their teams of employees who support them in serving their local communities. Tonight we recognise the excellence of each of these stores and their employees in providing an excellent consumer experience to the local communities they serve.”
Over the past 60 years ADM Londis has built a network of over 200 stores nationwide, each of which is owned and run by local business people who cater specifically for the community in which they operate. To celebrate its 60th anniversary, Londis gave its customers the opportunity to share €60,000 between three national charities. A further €20,000 was raised through national and regional radio promotions and a coffee and cupcake morning in Londis stores nationwide. At the Group’s 60th Anniversary banquet on 3rd October, Pieta House, the Irish Hospice Foundation and Temple Street Children’s University Hospital were each presented with cheques representing a combined value of over €80,000. This funding will support a new state of the art operating table for sick children, more suicide and self-harm crisis centres and a hospice nurses outreach programme.
Commenting on the charitable contribution, Londis Chief Executive, Stephen O’Riordan, said: “It is a privilege to present these charities with the funds raised through our network of stores. The work that these charities undertake on a daily basis impacts communities across the country in many ways. Community is a theme which resonates with us all and as a group of retailers, we’re proud to play our part to help support our local communities to be better, more prosperous places for everyone. In presenting these cheques, we hope to give something back to the communities which have supported ADM Londis retailers for the past 60 years.”
